HWIL & SWIL
IS4S creates modeling and simulation (M&S) environments across a variety of applications to enhance development, testing, and demonstration of solutions. Whether for radio frequency (RF), fires, or ground vehicles, we construct first principles models and work with validated simulation frameworks. We extensively use hardware- and software-in-the-loop (HWIL/SWIL) simulation across our efforts and within our continuous integration (CI) pipelines.
We validate our M&S tools by comparing against live data collected within our anechoic chambers or at test ranges.
Examples:
HWIL simulation systems test signal propagation between transmitters and receivers on high dynamic platforms, interfaces and operation of avionics subsystems, and electromagnetic support (ES) sensors and electromagnetic protection (EP) in increasingly complex environments.
SWIL simulation evaluates integrations among mission command systems and electromagnetic warfare (EW) environment simulation.
Kill Chain Analysis
We lead a modeling and simulation effort to assess elements of the long range kill chain. We use Cameo as a user interface, Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM) as a visualization tool, and plug-ins to connect Cameo and AFSIM or any other visualization tool. These tools, used correctly, will inform the DoD's acquisition arm as well as the warfighter on strengths, gaps, and shortfalls of capability development.
