Munitions

Full Munition Life Cycle Support

IS4S has experience developing weapon systems throughout the entire life cycle of the system: from idea generation and conceptualization through development, qualification, developmental testing (DT), operation testing (OT), production, fielding, and even through the destruction/demilitarization of the system.

Our deep bench of weapon system engineers, logisticians, and technicians have experience with nearly all current US Air Force weapon systems, components, and handling equipment. We are proud to have successfully led the development of the BLU-136 Next Generation Area Attack Weapon and the BLU-140 500lb Penetrating Weapon. These recently fielded systems highlight our cradle-to-grave weapon system lifecycle design, development, qualification, and transition into production and sustainment. We understand the complications of weapon system and aircraft integration, and we specialize in penetration mechanics and systems analysis.

Munition Design

Our team has developed a wide range of small and medium caliber munition variants providing advanced capabilities to the warfighter. These systems have a wide range of payloads such as reconnaissance platforms, deployed network systems, and various material defeat energetic payloads. We specialize in taking unique requirements ranging from electronic to energetic for these munitions, utilizing our world class design capabilities, rapid prototyping, and on-site testing to deliver for our customers.

Warhead Effectiveness Surrogate Targets

We have unique experience designing, fabricating, and using surrogate target systems to test the effectiveness of a wide range of weapons and obscurant systems. This equipment can emulate a variety of target attributes: basic physical shape and structure, motion, electronic componentry, emission characteristics, and other potential features of interest to defeat the target. It can also be built in a vast range of sizes: we have built systems from a single unit electronic target for electromagnetic pulse (EMP)/high-power microwave (HPM) kill verifications up to large target complexes built with dozens of cargo containers and active “rooms” in the target.

Lethality & Vulnerability Analysis

Our team has experience in characterizing weapon performance to include lethality and damage from multiple factors such as blast pressure and fragmentation.

This allows IS4S to design and build weapon systems that optimize performance and minimize load-out and cost.

Repurposing Munitions & Interfacing Launchers

We have extensive experience repurposing existing munition systems for customers that have limited resources but need munitions repurposed for a different use case. We can redesign the warhead system using existing integration requirements and also manufacture and test these new systems in less than a year.

We have also undertaken extensive integration efforts of adapting launchers to work with new or different munitions.

Our work includes, but is not limited to, the PAC-2, PAC-3, PAC-3 MSE, AIM-9X, Stinger, AI3, MHTK, Tamir, and Hellfire.
