Dr. John Raquet Receives Kepler Award
Dr. John Raquet, IS4S senior vice president and co-lead at our Dayton site, was awarded the prestigious Johannes Kepler Award by The Institute of Navigation (ION) on September 20 at the 2024 GNSS+ (Global Navigation Satellite System) Conference in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Johannes Kepler Award, first awarded in 1991, is the highest honor bestowed by the ION’s Satellite Division. The award was created to recognize individuals for sustained and significant impact on satellite navigation advancement during their lifetime. John was presented the award for his “significant technical contributions to GPS/GNSS integrated navigation systems; sustained leadership in the DoD and international community; and for the education of navigation professionals.”
John shared, “I am very honored to receive this award, especially when I look at the amazing people who have received this award before me. I also am grateful to the many people that I have had the privilege to work with at the places I’ve worked with through the years, including Draper, the 746th Test Squadron, AFIT/ANT Center, AFRL Sensors Directorate, the Tampere University of Technology (Finland), and IS4S.”
John’s extensive contributions to the position, navigation, and timing (PNT) community include developing new precise GNSS positioning algorithms, initiating novel complementary GPS techniques, championing navigation innovation and adoption in the DoD, teaching hundreds of students in his previous role as professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology, and of course his work at IS4S with open architecture approaches, such as pntOS and ASPN. Congratulations, John!
