Space Systems

Satellite C2 Ground Systems

We are supporting the building of ground systems performing satellite command and control (C2).

Our team works on telemetry, tracking and command (TT&C), satellite/constellation management, modeling and simulation, and rendezvous proximity operations and docking.

Lightweight Satnav

Lightweight Satnav (LWS) is a new position, navigation, and timing (PNT) signal that will be transmitted from the Space Development Agency (SDA) Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. LWS leverages commercial cryptography and the DoD network to provide military encryption with no critical program information (CPI). We have developed a transmitter and receiver that have been successfully demonstrated in the field.

Hypervelocity Impact Testing

Our North Alabama Range facility is the future home of the Auburn/NASA plasma drag gun, an electromagnetically-driven particle accelerator with the capability to launch dust particles at velocities up to 20 kilometers per second. This allows us to complete simulated space testing and study a variety of impact-generated phenomena on a wide range of surfaces.

Light Gas Gun

We have a two-stage light gas gun which uses gunpowder and highly compressed hydrogen to accelerate projectiles at speeds up to 7.5 kilometers per second to simulate orbital debris impacts on spacecraft, satellite materials, and components.
